Kirit Modi, Founder and Chair of the Jain and Hindu Organ Donation Steering Group (JHOD), and Honorary President for the National Kidney Federation (NKF) and the National Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Transplant Alliance (NBTA) has received an MBE in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours List, in recognition of Services to Organ Donation, and particularly within the ethnic minority communities.
A powerful advocate for organ donation, Kirit has pressed for important changes and led work to help place organ donation within BAME communities higher on the agenda with Parliamentarians, the NHS and other institutions.
Expressing his gratitude to colleagues for being awarded the MBE, Kirit said:
“It has been a great pleasure to work with dedicated colleagues in the Jain Hindu Organ Donation Steering Group (JHOD), National Kidney Federation (NKF), National BAME Transplant Alliance (NBTA), and Lister Area Kidney Patients Association (LAKPA). I have been personally touched by organ donation and am most grateful to the many NHS staff for the amazing care they have provided to me as a kidney transplant recipient.
It has been a pleasure to help improve lives through the work we have done and I am honoured to receive this recognition; it will provide more opportunities to continue my work.”
Prafula Shah, Secretary, Jain and Hindu Organ Donation Steering Group said: “We are delighted Kirit Modi’s amazing work for organ donation in our communities has been recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours. It is a befitting honour for someone who has been personally touched by organ donation and has voluntarily devoted much of his retirement to working full time for this important cause.”
In 2018, Kirit was awarded a Points of Light Award from the Prime Minister for his work on organ donation.
