In 2008 at the age of 60, Jayantibhai’s health had deteriorated rapidly and was diagnosed with Liver Cirrhosis. He was in need of an urgent liver transplant.  Not understanding what was involved, his initial thoughts were clouded by his cultural belief, fear and lack of understanding about organ donation. However, the team at Kings Hospital were great, and after consulting with doctors, specialist nurses, and recipients, he agreed to be put on the waiting list.

He was then told due to the lack of Asian donors, this could take up to 2 years to find a match if lucky. However, in the early hours on 1st August 2008, 6 months after being told he needed a transplant, a match was found. The procedure was successful and 15 years on at 75, he is living a happy and healthy life. He is grateful to the organ family and still remains in contact with them.

“If I hadn’t received the organ in time, I would not be here today and see my family and my especially my grandchildren.”
